About Us

How Co-op works...
Mom or Dad work together with another parent partner to teach a small preschool class one morning each week.  You are scheduled on the same morning each week and may choose the age group you wish to teach.  Many (but not all) parents will choose to work with the age group to which their child is assigned.  On other mornings when you are not teaching at Co-op, you may leave your child in the care of other parent teachers.  You are always welcome to stay and play with your child but you can leave knowing  that he or she will be loved and well cared for while you are gone.

Why Play?

by Tammy Johnson

Children need to play. They need to play with shaving cream and fingerpaint, build with blocks, roar like dinosaurs, and waddle like ducks. Children learn through hands-on activities. They learn about the world around them. They learn to use their imagination. They learn about themselves and how to interact with others. They learn concepts and language skills. Play is important for healthy brain development. Play develops physical and emotional strength.

Children need to explore the world. They need to use their five senses. They need to get outside and get dirty. They need to run, ride bikes, draw, paint, pretend and learn.

Parents can facilitate play by being available to play hide-and-seek, tag, follow-the-leader, and counting and number games. Parents can act out fairy tales and read favorite stories to their children. They can read, sing, talk and listen.

Play is a learning opportunity. Children need to play with their parents.

Benefits for Mom...
Our Co-op promotes positive parenting and offers role models for mothers as they learn to parent their children more effectively.  Whether you participate in the Co-op program or standard program, our school provides a support system for all families involved.  Parents often form lasting friendships with others as they share the joys of watching their children grow.

Background Checks...
All parents working with our children are background checked, including babysitters.  Part of the registration fee covers the background check.  All parents must also attend a mandatory informational session given by The Church of the Ascension
